Post Operative Care

After your Lasik surgery, your eyes may have a foreign body sensation or some irritation for a few hours. You may even have water or tears coming out of the eyes. If the discomfort is more, you would be advised to take mild pain killers.

Immediately after surgery, once you go home, you are advised to take a short nap while wearing the protective eye shields. The more you keep your eyes closed, better is the recovery process. Do not rub your eyes at any cost even if the itching becomes unbearable. You might also experience some dryness but it is normal.

Returning to Normal Activities

Depending upon the type of surgery and the condition of your eye, you will be required to rest. Most of the patients return to work within a day or so. Still you would need to follow the restrictions mentioned by your doctor and as below.

  • Wait one full day before taking a shower. Wait for at least a week to take hair bath. Water should not go into the eyes at all.
  • Wait one day to one week, as your doctor advises, before resuming driving.
  • Wear sunglasses for the first few days even at home.
  • Read and watch TV in moderation the first few days.
  • Do not wear eye makeup for four days.
  • Do not rub your eyes for one week.
  • Do not exercise for one week.
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs and whirlpools for one week.
  • Avoid gardening and dusty environments for one week.
  • Avoid contact sports that could result in an eye injury for one month.
